2017 Favourite: Pressed Powder

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder ($58 CAD)

My all time favourite pressed powder of 2017 is the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Finish Powder. The obsession with this is so real because of how moisturizing it is! Despite being a pressed powder, I never look powdery, the formula melts into my skin, blending out all the edges effortlessly and gives me a beautiful matte (But not flat) finish. I love this so much I bought it in all 3 shades: 1 to highlight, 2 to set my face and 3 to bronze. The only thing I’m waiting for CT to do is step up her game and introduce more deeper shades into the range because her #3 is what I would call a medium shade at best.

Illamasqua Powder Foundation ($53.10 CAD)

Despite being marketed as a powder foundation (which it could totally be! The coverage is anywhere from light to a solid medium) if used with a light hand this powder is absolutely gorgeous over foundation. The lighter shades brighten the skin in a way that the effect is noticeable and lasts (vs. I find other lighter powders tend to fade quickly on the skin). The shade that matches my skin tone sets my makeup in place and it wont go anywhere. The texture is velvet soft and melts beautifully into the skin. LOVE!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders ($55 CAD)

I find the science behind these powders absolutely fascinating. The premise is based on colour theory with different lights producing unique effects on the skin. I have already gone through an entire full size powder in Dim light and have serious dents in my Mood and Diffused light powders. Although some powders in this line can be more shimmery than others, I find these three (Dim, Mood and Diffused light) to be the least shimmery of the bunch and are my favorite. They brighten the skin in such a unique way without leaving the skin sparkly (although diffused light almost gets you there, mood and dim leave a sheen). My face looks super radiant with these powders, unlike any other and I use it as the finishing touch to my makeup

I have that CT powder! Only used a handful of times though so I haven’t decided yet how much I like it. I completely agree about the shade range though. The ‘deep’ shade looks really disappointing and inaccurate, the more I look at it?! I find it really ashy and would see it as a problem for warm skin tones.

Totally! I had to bring the Deep shade near the window just to shed some light on it and realize that it was a bit darker than the medium shade.
