2017 Favourite: Primers

2017 Favourite: Primers

2017 was a great year for primers. While many don’t really do anything, I was lucky enough to find a few that really made a difference. And,  while I enjoyed many more, I have narrowed down my top picks that I always came back to this year:

Becca Backlight Priming Filter ($46 CAD)

This primer has the lightest, creamiest texture to it, while depositing a radiant glow on the face with no sparkles or shimmer. The base colour is a soft pink/nude shade but it dissipates once blended into the skin to leave the finish behind without a colour. Even when worn underneath foundation, a ray of glow manages to shine through just enough to compliment any foundation and give me a healthy finish. While the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow does a similar thing, it’s about $20 more expensive for an identical finish.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil ($48 CAD)

This primer leaves my skin incredibly hydrated (beyond most moisturizer I have tried) and leaves my skin slightly tacky, perfect for holding on to my foundation all day. I have noticed a difference in longevity when not using this primer. The tackiness is not so extreme where my foundation cant blend well on top because of the hydration that comes with this – it helps product move and blend well on top. Overall, this is an incredible product and a little goes a long way.

YSL Instant Moisture Glow ($67 CAD)

I tried a cleanser that completely dried out my skin to the point where I was peeling and any foundation I wore looked terrible. After searching my collection for a primer that added enough moisture to calm/ heal my skin and allow for a smooth makeup application I landed on this YSL one. It truly stood the test of time with my skin (which was pretty much like a tortue test) adding incredible amounts of hydration that wore beautifully with any product I wore on top. The product consistency is gel like and skins right into the skin quickly upon application.
