Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter: Light Brilliant Gold

Try as I might to save my coins by resisting the Anastasia x Amrezy highlighter ($36 CAD), the hype surrounding this truly got the best of me. I decided to purchase this from Sephora.ca to have the option of returning it if I had any regrets. The reviews on Sephora are incredible (4.7/5 stars with 78 reviews) and all I see is ‘don’t sleep on this’, ‘best highlighter ever’, ‘not too gold’ and I was done for.

The compact is gorgeous on highlighter! The back of the compact is rose gold and the front is black with beautiful rose gold details in the logo and design. There is a push button clasp open at the front to reveal the product with a great size mirror.

The texture of the powder is really interesting. It almost feels dry to touch, like you’re touching a table surface but surprisingly a lot of product picks up on a brush with extremely minimal fall out (if any at times) and applies even on the skin. The pattern of the powder has some ripples to it, looking almost like  sand dunes. Its so simple yet stunning!

Unfortunately, the swatches for this highlighter just don’t do it justice. It swatches almost thin, a bit lackluster in my opinion for how it appears on the cheeks and extremely golden whereas it applies more like a nude campaign with a  strong golden reflex and is highly reflective. This is truly one product you have to try on to appreciate. I agree with reviews that it does not emphasize pores or texture on the face and looks incredibly smooth on the cheeks.

The finish is almost perfect really: the sheen is more intense than the actual colour itself so when applied it really lets your natural skin tones shine through whilst really delivering a highly reflective golden finish. Although seemingly natural on the skin, I would say that because the reflex is golden – those with olive/ yellow or warm tones would likely enjoy the finish of this highlighter the most. Cooler skins may find they need to use a very light hand or wait for a  cooler alternative to hit the market before really getting into this.

So my verdict is that I wont return this but I also recognize that it will get just as much love (not more) than my other favorite highlighters. It’s unique in that I don’t have such a warm highlight in my collection so I can make a look out of it and will continue to use it.

What are your thoughts? Tempted to try it?
