Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder: Pale Yellow 1

Yet another Bobbi Brown celebrity makeup artist favorite: the Sheer Finish Loose Powder in Pale Yellow. Since this is always out of stock in Naime’s and makeup artists like Ariel (Kylie Jenner’s artist) swear by it, I finally decided to try it out.

I can see why this powder has such a large celebrity following. The loose powder almost binds together when blended out on the skin to leave behind a bright and smooth finish. The colour is a pale yellow that could look ashy for medium tan skintones, but the line has additional colours to it for those who prefer another option.

This powder is finely milled to smooth out the skin and blend out flawlessly but not so fine where it dusts away when you open up the cap. This is not overly drying for my normal to dry skin and leaves me look mat enough for hours.

The powder has no shimmer or sparkles to it, so you really just have the colour and formula to rely on for the brightened effect, and this one delivers! While the swatch cant really do the product justice, it gives you a good enough idea of the colour (i’m a MAC NC35 for reference) and find this is just light enough for me.

This powder makes me forget about Laura Mercier and say bye to my expensive YSL loose powder and i’ll continue to repurchase. Finally a loose powder that brightens without drying out my skin, thank YOU Bobby!

I have tried the pressed powder version of this (pale yellow too) and absolutely love it! It smooths everything out so much without drying or caking. It might just be the best powder that I’ve personally tried so far. I have since tried a few other Bobbi Brown makeup bits and honestly can’t fault it! So good!

What’s your verdict on the Laura Mercier one?

Right? Bobbi Brown has some serious gems but often gets overlooked or not talked about as often as it should.

On me, my Laura Mercier powder looks quite drying, heavy and caky when I use large amounts to bake my face. It’s also not as brightening as my RCMA No Colour Powder (which also sets my makeup and makes it last all day) so I stopped reaching for Laura months ago. With some recent finds like this Bobbi Brown powder or the Hourglass Veil loose powder, all the other loose powders have been collecting dust in my collection because I find that the Bobbi Brown and Hourglass ones set my makeup without feeling too dry or heavy on the skin. What about you? what’s your verdict on Laura?

That’s awesome, considering the wonders I’ve heard about the Laura Mercier Powder!
I have a question for you. To run your blog, do you budget a certain amount of money to spend on makeup each week, like you might budget groceries or lunch money? I just wondered. Thanks! 🙂

That’s a great question! Makeup (even drug store makeup now) has become really expensive and when not kept a tally on, things can get out of control. I have a budget spreadsheet that I use to plan out my expenses for pretty much everything on a monthly basis (including groceries, clothes, gifts, rent etc). When my makeup wishlist exceeds my monthly budget sometimes, i’ll either take from other categories (such as clothes or even my daily coffee allowance), rely on gift cards, the cashback I get from my credit card or my ebates cheques to compensate for the overage. Where I dont have any room some months, then I’ve learnt to just let it go. Funny enough, months after I dont even remember what it was that I had wanted so badly in the moment and over time the joy of not buying makeup actually exceeds the happiness I get of giving into my indulgence. I really try to stick to my monthly budget and make sure I don’t go over and while that’s a challenge i’ve never really mastered, it helps keep me realistic when evaluating makeup purchases, I love seeing my bank account stable and my makeup collection doesnt get too overwhelming (I’ve already done 3 massive declutters!). Hope that helps 🙂
