Hi Beauties! I wanted to review the newly launched Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light and Contour wands ($50 CAD each), currently only available online at charlottetilbury.com, but will soon be released into stores (I believe sometime this week, if not already).
The contour wands come in two shades (fair medium, which I have and medium-dark). For some bizzare reason, the label on my contour wand reads: ‘fair-medium’, however on the website it is listed as ‘light medium’.
These products can be used over foundation or even powder. Both set completely dry (the contour wand sets as a demi-matte whereas the highlight sets with the glow).
Each wand comes in a squeezy tube with a soft (almost felt like) sponge tip applicator. After the first use, always squeeze less out than you think you will need because the product from the previous application will still be ‘wet’ and on the sponge. For instance, after using it yesterday, today I didnt even need to squeeze the bottle to apply just the right amount to the face. I used whatever was already left on the sponge, which wasn’t dry at all!
Each product comes locked aka “off”, but if you twist the cap slightly to the ‘on’ side, the product will be able to get dispensed onto the sponge. Don’t get me wrong, whilst on, product doesn’t automatically come out. You need to squeeze the tube in order to dispense the product, however if you travel or are storing these wands in a drawer where other products may lie on top of them, the ‘off’ function is quite handy.
Contour Wand: Fair Medium
The ‘contour’ wand in Fair Medium is a warm, medium tone brown shade. This blends out well enough to be applied onto fair skin but can definitely be used (slightly less diffused) for medium skin. This tone is perfect for my NC35 skin. To me, this product is too warm to function as a contour (I prefer cooler contour shades to mimmic the effects of grey shadows), and works much better as a bronzer. This product dries down completely giving you about a minute to work with it, but then it will set and not budge! For instance, the swatches that you will see below were on my hands for a good 5 minutes and stayed put when I tried to blend them out afterwards. However, if you go in within a minute, these products diffuse beautifully on the skin.
When in the ‘on’ mode, if you squeeze the tube, you will see the product dispense out of the middle of the sponge tip. Be careful not to squeeze too hard because once the product comes out, it cannot go back in.
The highlight wand is the most beautiful warm, SOFT, light champaign gold colour that I wish so many of my other highlighters were. It looks STUNNING on the skin when blended out and can be built up to a medium intensity. For added glow, layer your highlighters on top of this (I’ve tried with my Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow powders) and it intensifies the shine. I reiterate, SHINE. This has very tiny shimmer particles on it, that when blended into the skin, diffuse into a glow.
For some reason felt emptier to me than it should have. If really had to squeeze the bottle (and at some point, I had squeezed it completely flat) and no product was coming out! And yes, the applicator was turned ‘on’. Eventually, I started to roll it like a tube of toothpaste and finally product began to dispense out.
Now, I know you do not need to use a lot of product (the swatches below could be used for two applications on me) and each time you use it, an amount is left on the dome foot, ready for your next application. However, the product should not feel empty to me upon my first application. The contour wand, for reference, felt more ‘full’ as I didnt have to squeeze as hard.
All in all, I really do love the colour of these products, the way they blend into the skin and then set completely. I dont mind the packaging and the dome foot applicator, it seems to work well for this formula. What I would have liked to see differently is either more product in the highlighter or a smaller tube and for the contour to be renamed as a bronzer to be less misleading. Despite that, I really do love this and see myself repurchasing it once I’m done. This is beauty swatched approved! Enjoy the swatches…
