Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder

Hourglass has launched a loose powder called the Veil Translucent Setting Powder ($55 CAD) that is talc free and claims to be infused with diamond particles for a light refracted finish that doesn’t have flashback and sets makeup for long wear.

What attracted me most to this powder is the claim that it has diamond particles infused in it. Often times, for a dry skin girl, loose powders leave me looking too dry, matte or chalky. I love the idea of setting my makeup and even baking to brighten areas on my face but most loose powders age me, so I tend not to reach for them.

I bought this in the hopes that it wont give my skin an overly dry appearance and reflect light to brighten the skin, using the same technology from their ambient lighting powders.

The powder is packaged in a stunning container with a lid that has holes in the shape of an ‘H’ pressed on it to dispense the “perfect amount of product”. This is probably exactly what I need as when I get into makeup, I have no concept of moderation. I’m the type to dunk my beautyblender into a loose powder and hit my face, Patrick Starr style. With the controlled dispense lid, it really forces you to pick up a perfect amount of powder and once you buff it onto your face, you realize it’s enough.

This powder has a very subtle pale yellow tone to it but when blended out you get left with a light sheen that’s colourless.

This powder lives up to the claims and I have been OBSESSED with it ever since I bought it at sephora. It’s what I hoped every other powder I bought before this would have: a soft sheen, sets the makeup for longevity and subtly brightens my skin. I can honestly say that my hunt for the perfect powder is over – I’m a loyal fan of this! It’s 100% beauty swatched APPROVED.

How does this compare with Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder?

The hourglass powder leaves a very slight glow to the face while still setting your makeup. The Laura Mercier Powder is heavier and more matte on the face. I’d recommend the Laura one for oily skins and the hourglass one for normal to dry skins food
