Lesser Known Makeup Brands: Volume 1

Vasanti Blush Duo ($29 CAD): A Charmed Life

Vasanti was created in Canada by 3 sisters and a childhood friend, inspired by South Asian beauty. There are some really great gems hidden in this indie brand’s collection and this blush is no exception. It is a split pan with two complementary colours that when swirled together make a beautiful soft pink colour. The texture of the powder is extremely soft and lends itself to a subtle but buildable effect on the skin. This is beauty swatched approved

Annabelle Eyeshadow ($5.95 CAD each): Gleam

Annabelle cosmetics has been a staple in the Canadian drugstores for some time now but I find is still fairly new to most people. Annabelle cosmetics has been around 50 years, founded in Montreal and based in colour. The brand offers an extremely extensive library of product with some real hidden gems. The powder shadow in Gleam was exactly what I had been searching high and low street brands for: a soft golden colour that adds sheen to my lid creating a beautiful everyday look that’s not overpowering for a conservative office setting. Although the shadow takes some work to build up (either by scrapping the top layer of the powder and packing it on the lids or using fix+) the effect is worth it and it lasts all day. bBold Contour Kit ($57.71 CAD)

With an extensive library of self tanning products, the bBold Contour Kit is the brands first entry into makeup. This UK based company has been around for 5 years, most popular in the UK and Ireland. Their self-tanning range has made its mark in a short period of time, making me curious to see what their first forte into makeup was all about. The texture of these products are unlike any other that I have. The contour product (far left) feels really silky and soft. The bronzer (middle shade) and gorgeous rose gold highlighter (far right) feel … empty lol It’s a really stiff product that if i was closing my eyes wouldn’t feel like i’m touching powder, it feels like i’m touching the pan but product definitely comes off extremely pigmented. The product blends out well and the colour selection is nice (cool contours and warm bronzers). Hopefully the brand comes out with more shades for all different skin tones in the future.
