Makeup Regrets: Volume 3

Today i’m featuring the top makeup regrets I have purchased to share with you all. Not all of these products are ‘bad’ or don’t work, they’re just items that I wish I had saved my coins on because I could have happily lived without it. Let’s get a start!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit: Light to Medium ($52 CAD)

This palette launched before it’s time and really set the stage for contouring, highlighting and bronzing. When it was released, I’m sure it was a great product but now there are so many alternatives on the market that this just isn’t that special or memorable to me. The powders are a bit dense/ dry and look a little heavy on the skin but it ‘works’ (as noted by the swatches below). I just have other products I prefer over this and don’t find myself reaching for it at all.

Kevin Aucoin The Celestial Skill Liquid Lighting Highlighter ($62 CAD)

The colour of this product is so yellow/golden that I hesitate to use it every time I reach for it in my collection. I did a full review of this product, linked here, in which I agree it is a nice product to use under foundation for a an added radiance. It has a light, almost oil like feel to it and sinks into the skin to leave you with a radiance but the colour is so stark golden. I much prefer my Becca Backlight Priming Filter which doesnt have as strong as a colour to it and leaves the face with a similar radiance.

YSL Touche Eclat Glow Shot Liquid Highlighter: Sunset ($40 CAD)

A full review of this highlighter is available on my blog, linked here. This is a very subtle highlighter. Whether I try wearing it on top of foundation as a targeted highlight or underneath as an all over face glow it just doesnt show up! The formula is so subtle that it would work well over a bare face and nothing else. A good kardashian makeup trick is to wear only highlight on bare skin for a healthy glow to the gym or wherever your natural makeup day takes you to give you an overall healthy looking glow. I see this being best used for that technique but the problem is, I rarely go for that look.

Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick: Melon ($18 CAD)

The colour of this lip cream is a neon pink, which I don’t remember seeing on a swatch and even in the tube it looks more subtle. I did a full review on the lip product, linked here, but in short – the colour is too intense for what I was hoping it would be.

Giorgio Armani La Mia Milano Rouge D’Armani Lipstick (Nordstrom Exclusive) ($52.33 CAD)

I am so mad at myself for this one. I PAID $52 FOR A PINK LIPSTICK. As I sit and try and think of why I would do this, i’ll share with you the coles notes on it: This was a limited edition lipstick available at Nordstrom and marketed as a lilac purple. It ended up being a glossy medium rose shade with an ever so subtle purple undertone. The colour is dupeable, the formula is forgettable and the price is painful. The only positive thing I have to say about this, is that the packaging is beautiful. The top of the lid is this gorgeous white wood-like finish and the component has a magnetic closure. Ok, I cant talk about this anymore – too mad at myself for it lol

Givenchy Prisme Blush Highlight & Structure Powder Blush Duo ($55 CAD) in Romantica

I think this product falls under the regrets category because I genuinely don’t know how to use it. Each shade individually is not pigmented enough to pick up on a brush evenly because the pans are so small, it’s hard to really buff the brush into the powder. When swirled together, the contour and highlight shades don’t make sense whereas I could see this working for some of the other shades.
