Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Filtered Light Setting Powder

I purchased the new Tarte Filtered Light setting powder from their Rainforest of the Sea collection ($41 CAD) a few weeks ago and have been testing it ever since. This had initially caught my eye because the description online explicitly called out ‘baking’ as a benefit: “Weightless, talc-free makeup setting & baking powder with tiny, light-reflecting particles that blur out pores & lines” (tarte website). For others who have sensitive skin, this product is talc free so it wont cause acne or irritate your skin.

The shade of this powder is a light banana yellow (pictured below is extremely true to colour) and is VERY heavily vanilla fragranced. I’m not very sensitive to fragrances but I was coughing like crazy when I apply this powder because the scent (just like like the powder) goes everywhere. It was too intense for me.

The powder is SO finely milled (the most finely milled powder that I own by far) that it has difficulty being picked up on a beautyblender and applies really thin/sheer onto the face. For baking, I expect powders to lighten and brighten my under eye area but because this applies so thin and doesn’t layer well (excess powder just falls off my face), it doesn’t bake well at all.

As an all over setting powder this works for setting my liquid products without adding any coverage or colour and leaves my skin feeling very silky smooth. However! because I bought this with the intention to bake, this is not beauty swatched approved since it pretty much does nothing and paralyses my sense of smell.

I recently purchased this with the same intention but it is too fine for much of anything! I agree on the scent too, just meh. Thanks for sharing!
