The Ordinary Skincare Review

The Ordinary has recently been in the news for some strange behavior by the owner, Brandon Truaxe. While Brandon has long appeared to be eccentric, incoherent and erratic, lately his behavior has caused his company to shut down. Brandon has closed all of his stores and instructed his employees to terminate The Ordinary website.

In light of his recent actions, on Friday a judge ruled that Brandon be terminated from his role as CEO of Deciem (the company that owns The Ordinary) and identified Nicola Kilner to be the interim replacement.  Nicola was once the co-CEO of Deciem until Brandon fired her.

It is a shame that the drama behind Deciem has taken over the company where the products themselves are some of the best in the market for being no-bullshit formula’s that work at an affordable price. Some of the most affluent people I know and know of swear by The Ordinary because it really works. This is the skincare secret that so many people use for that noticeable youthful, glowing and bright complexion.

Online, it is quite frustrating to shop for The Ordinary online because it’s not clear which products work for what skin type or what they do! A lot of the descriptions are are confusing and highly technical and no one has the time to research each ingredients on their own to understand what the Ordinary products do. So after reading a lot of reviews, I finally came to the conclusion on purchasing the following Ordinary products:

  • Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion
  • Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
  • Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion ($9.80 USD)

Benefit: Texture & Brightening

Texture: This is an extremely liquidity, light yellow substance that absorbs immediately into the skin. If I use too much then I skip my moisturizer because this is quite an emoliant product.

Application: apply the tinnest amount to your face daily, PM

Rating: 8/10

Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% ($7.90 USD)

Not only does this product have a major a cult following, it’s also my favorite from the line. While it’s sold out online at the ordinary, you can still find this on other sites like asos.com.

Benefit: brightening… and it works! My skin is glowing after using this for 3 months and i’ve now started to prefer my face without foundation because I look so bright with this.

Texture: The Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% has a thick almost toothpaste like consistency but blends effortlessly out and absorbs quickly into the skin. I can wear this under any of my skincare because once it absorbs into the skin it’s truly undetectable.

Application: I wear this over my water based serums but under my moisturizers both AM and PM.

Rating: 10/10

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% (6.80 USD)

Benefit: Texture

Texture: This is an extremely liquidity, transparent oil. A little goes a long with with this, often I have to skip my moisturizer  because my face feels quite greasy upon application. I cant say I notice a difference when I wear this and often times it slightly stings the area around my nose. For the discomfort and unnoticable effect, I wouldnt repurchase.

Application: apply the tinnest amount to your face 2x per week in the PM

Rating: 6/10
