The Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Kit ($40 CAD) has been on sale at Sephora ($14 off) for some time now and sold out once so I had to pick it up to try. I haven’t tried a lot of makeup from Smashbox, but I trust that it’s a reputable company so here we are.
The kit contains a mini angle brush (quite thin and a bit flimsy), which was a good effort but I classify it within my travel makeup. The powders are a cool (raisen colour) brown, a medium warm brown and a banana yellow shade. The packaging is very sleek and compact.
Overall, the powders are soft and the shades are well suited for what they are intended to do. The contour shade is a bit stiff but blends out nicely. The warm bronzer is quite orange in nature so would work best for medium skin tones. The banana yellow shade is the creamiest of them all and is quite pigmented so use sparingly! Nice trio but not necessary if you have similar tones in your collection. I actually like the Urban Decay Shapeshifter palette better ($60 CAD) in who you get 9 shades (5 of which are cream) but the powders feel like they are better quality. For that reason, I don’t see myself reaching for this very often and cant beauty swatch approve this.
This also comes with a step by step guide on contouring based on your face shape, which I love! It’s actually the one guide that comes with makeup that i find incredibly informative and useful.
