In my last trip to Sephora, I picked up the Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick ($42 CAD) in shade One Day. This is a weird system: I think Hourglass has priced the gold component and the actual lipstick (in the black case) separately, but I dont know where the option is to buy them separately.
The gold component is quite heavy and comes to a sharp end. No doubt that it is beautiful, but $42 CAD beautiful? If Hourglass is giving us the option to skip the golden weapon looking thing, then I would take it.
The actual product does not contain a lot of lipstick (0.03oz or .9G). For reference, a MAC lipstick contains 0.1 oz / 3 grams of product at about half the price ($24 CAD).
The shade One Day is a medium, warm tone pinky brown colour. This has a nice cream finish, is soft upon application (but not so soft where I’m afraid of breaking the bullet) and leaves my lips with a healthy shine. After two swipes on my lips I get an opaque coverage that is even and really comfortable on the lips
This lasts on me as well as my normal cream lipsticks do (about 3-4 hours without eating). The lipstick is really nice, the shade is a beautiful nude (although not extremely unique) and the component is extra, but nice. All in all this is a nice lip product, but not $42CAD nice. Everyone has their budget that they’re comfortable spending in and with Hourglass, you will get a pricer product. I like it, but I wont repurchase it or buy another shade so for me, its not beauty swatched approved.
