MAC Powder Blushes: Breath of Plum, Melba, Mocha

I have been on a MAC blush trip lately and purchased a bunch of pan blushes ($21 CAD). There’s something about a MAC blush that is so wonderfully simple but effective. Beyond the oversprays, holographic effects and unicorn imprints that feels like it sells these days, I always come back to MAC blushes that nothing beyond simple yet beautiful cheek colours.

I find myself coming back to the basics in my makeup collection and donating or giving away a lot of makeup that I dont reach for anymore. It’s weird, but this marks the end of an era where hype and packaging ruled my wallet and in my quest to simplify my makeup I got rid of a lot of blushes.

Coming back to my MAC blushers, I keep my favorites in a z-palette and among the one’s I reach for the most per a recent haul, here they are! What are your go-to blushes?

Breath of Plum

This is a matte, medium plum colour with elements of pink in it to lift the cheeks (as most purple or plum blushes tend to make me look more tired or bruised depending on the shade), this one works to brighten my face. Another plum blush that does the same because it has a soft sheen to it and is a lighter purple is NARS Sin. I find Sin is a tad bit deeper so for my skintone it’s best suited for an evening blush whereas this one applies a lot lighter than it appears making it a great daytime blush on my NC35 skin. However, for those who prefer deeper colour, you can build this up to a full intensity as swatched below

This is a matte, soft peach shade that would suit light to light medium skins best. This is for those who love orange blushes but dont want to get too extreme and wander into neon orange territory. I find these shades look beautiful on everyone but especially those with an olive or yellow skintone. Below is a heavy swatch to show the colour but when applied lightly, I get a soft flush of coral.

Mocha is a light mauve shade with pink tones to it. Where most mauves tend to be quite warm, this has just enough pink to it to make it appear neutral on the skin. This is truly the perfect everyday blush that goes with any look, any time of day and gives my face a healthy yet subtle pink flush. Out of the three, I have to say this one is my favorite.
